Matar paneer recipe



  • 1 cup paneer (cubed)
  • 1 cup green peas
  • 2 medium-sized onions (finely chopped)
  • 2 medium-sized tomatoes (finely chopped)
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 green chillies (slit lengthwise)
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  • 1/4 cup fresh cream
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves (finely chopped)


  1. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they start spluttering, add onions and fry till they turn translucent.
  2. Add ginger-garlic paste and slit green chillies. Fry for a minute till the raw smell goes away.
  3. Add chopped tomatoes and cook till they become soft and mushy.
  4. Add coriander powder, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, and garam masala powder. Mix well and fry for 2-3 minutes till the spices are cooked.
  5. Add cubed paneer and green peas. Mix well and cook for 5-6 minutes.
  6. Add fresh cream and salt to taste. Mix well and cook for another minute.
  7. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
  8. Serve hot with rice or Indian breads like naan, roti or paratha.
